Hydraulic
waterbed mattresses commonly referred to as "baffles" was one
of the first types of systems used to slow down the waves. They were the
first system to not only "slow" down the waves but it also gave
a unique push back feel because of the slow release of water within the
water chambers. Baffled or Hydraulic as we call them today offer support
not found in traditional fiber or foam waterbed mattresses. As soon as you
press down on a hydraulic waterbed mattress you would instantly feel the
resistance as the water slowly seeps out of each chamber until a pressure
balance is achieved. The resulting support not only aided sleeping positions
but also helped the sleeper change positions more easily. Baffled designs
also keep sleepers from bottom out on waterbeds. A unique benefit with baffled
designs was that it is easier to drain and move these types as the mattress
doesn't consist of wet fiber which need to be vacuumed packed during the
draining process with an electric pump. |
